-The students often get this simple concept backwards or confuzzled.  The inverse function evaluated at the function's y point has an instantaneous rate of change that is the simple inverse of the derivative of the original function evaluated at x.  Until they can say this in their own words and know what they are talking about the "helper" does very little.  I used to teach this concept a little too complexly until a training I received from Guillermo Barbarena helped me create this graceful little 'inverse helper' ...
